Book review

The book that I have chosen to read for my assessment is called “the Power of one”. It is written by Bryce Courtenay. It is a suitable book for a 12year old because it is not too long and not too hard to read but mostly it is interesting.
A brief outline of the plot of the book is that a young boy named Peekay who has a dream to become a heavyweight boxer. This is based in the beautiful country which is South Africa. South Africa at the time was going through a very bad time. All South Africans were full of hatred and racism which then resulted in Apartheid. Apartheid is when two different races in one country are separated and do not have a lot of contact with each other. The young boy named Peekay is also going through a really bad time because he has just been sent to a boarding school because his mother cannot handle him and she had a nervous breakdown. His father also took his own life.
He is then constantly bullied and learns how to think with his head and not with his heart. His mother recovers and advises him not to become a boxer because he is not strong enough. To find out what happens at the end you have to read the book.
The main character in this story is very strong hearted person who will never give up and only do what he believes is the right thing to do. All of his family and friends support and have faith in him. He has also become mentally strong because of the way he had been bullied.
I would recommend this book to more than just 12 year olds because I loved it and gave it 4.9 out of 5 stars. The only thing I disliked was the ending of the book but you will just have to read it to find out.
